Community Overview

Belton is located in the heart of Texas among rolling plains and wooded hills. The 180-mile radius around Belton is a region that encompasses 55 percent of Texas, and is home to more than 9.4 million people.

Founded in the 1850s as the county seat for Bell County, Belton has a rich history and radiates the romance of the Texas of the Old West. Over 160 historical markers are evidence of the City’s historic past, and the nearby Chisholm Trail recalls Texas’ heritage.

Belton’s central Texas location also puts it squarely in the middle of natural wonders, shopping and entertainment.

Recreation opportunities include Belton Lake – a fisherman’s and boater’s haven that covers 12,300 acres with 136 miles of shoreline – and Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Miller Springs Nature Center is located in the historic Tennessee Valley, and serves as a “Classroom Without Walls” for area school districts.

The Bell County Exposition Center hosts indoor rodeos, the Central Texas State Fair, concerts, ice-skating, arts and crafts shows, cutting horse competition, boat shows and a variety of other events. Belton also hosts one of the largest Independence Day celebrations and parades in the state.

Overall, Belton offers a quiet, serene location to relax for the weekend or forever. Yet, Belton’s location is also an ideal one for commerce. No matter if you’re just stopping through or have decided to make Belton your home, we welcome you.
