Letter from the Mayor
On behalf of the City Council and residents who help make our community such a special place, I am pleased to welcome you to the City of Richmond Heights, Missouri.
Richmond Heights is ideally located at the confluence of Interstates 64 and 170 – commonly known as Highway 40 and the Innerbelt – in the heart of the St. Louis Metro area. We’re just minutes away from every major feature and attraction in the vicinity of the contemporary yet historic St. Louis County community – including St. Louis International Airport, downtown St. Louis and its riverfront attractions, Forest Park, the St. Louis County government headquarters in nearby Clayton, quality health-care providers, several universities and colleges, and our own Saint Louis Galleria (the region’s premier shopping venue).
Our City logo tags Richmond Heights as a place that successfully melds “Progress With Tradition.” The “tradition” component includes those things that make Richmond Heights such a wonderful place, among them:
- A diverse population of nearly 10,000 people from all walks of life.
- A wide array of well-maintained, attractive homes in established neighborhoods in one of the most desirable communities in St. Louis County.
- An award-winning, four-year-old community center that includes an indoor aquatics center, meeting rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a comprehensive library.
- Desirable city services that range from 24-hour police, fire and emergency medical service and a responsive public works department to curbside solid waste pickups and a mandatory recycling program. The community also has an enviable fall leaf vacuuming program and a highly trained staff of plan reviewers and building inspectors.
- Well-maintained streets and sidewalks.
- Quality public and private schools.
The “progress” component of the City’s moniker identifies the way the nine elected City Council members and the City’s staff of more than 130 full-time employees work with residents, businesses and other government and private entities. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring the physical viability and the future fiscal standing of our City while simultaneously maintaining the traditional character of our family neighborhoods.
As this publication goes to press, the fruit of some of our labors can be seen as construction proceeds on a new, mixed-use development project on Brentwood Boulevard west of I-170. The Boulevard-St. Louis will include office space, condominiums and retail space - such as shopping, restaurants and entertainment. In the very near future, work will begin on another project immediately to the north that is to include two new hotels and additional retail space.
Lastly, we expect to see more new housing in our city in the next few years – such as the coming mixed-use development on Brentwood and the Hi-Pointe Lofts Condominiums on Clayton Road (near SSM St. Mary’s Health Center) that was completed about two years ago. A decades-old apartment complex along Eager Road (southwest of the interchange at I-64 and Brentwood Boulevard) will soon give way to a completely new upscale condominium community.
These and other developments make this truly an amazing time for Richmond Heights. If you’re just passing through, we invite you to visit us often. And if you’re moving in, welcome to the neighborhood — it’s a great place to call home!
Sincerely,
Mayor Betty Humphrey
